Effects of pregnancy on GH/IGF-1 concentrations in acromegalic women

Broussaud Stephanie , Brue Thierry , Chanson Philippe , Cortet-Rudelli Christine , Caron Philippe

In normal woman, placental GH secretion increases during gestation and induces an increase of IGF-1 concentrations. In acromegalic women, increased pituitary GH secretion seems autonomous and IGF-1 increases in late stage of pregnancy related to placental GH. In a cohort of 46 women (mean age 31.7±4.5 years), acromegaly was due to micro (n=7) and macro (n=39) adenomas. Before the beginning of 59 pregnancies, women have been treated by transphenoidal surgery ...

Effects of 6 months growth hormone treatment in GH deficient patients (GHD) long after traumatic brain injury (TBI)

Yollin Edwige , Kozlowski Odile , Fontaine Pierre , Rousseaux Marc , Cortet-Rudelli Christine

We studied 84 patients with neuropsychological disabilities at least 1 year after TBI. 24 patients had severe GHD (29%). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of six months GH treatment on quality of life and metabolism in this group.GH treatment was initiated in 17 patients (71%), planned with 3, declined by one, contra-indicated in 2, 1 patient moved. It lasted more 6 months in 16 of them (14 men, mean age 36±12, mean delay after TBI 7...

Is there an endocrine explanation for persistent neuropsychological disabilities long after traumatic brain injury (TBI)?

Yollin Edwige , Kozlowski Odile , Soudan Benoît , D’Herbomez Michèle , Fontaine Pierre , Rousseaux Marc , Cortet-Rudelli Christine

The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of pituitary dysfunction in patients keeping neuropsychological disabilities long after TBI (at least 1 year), to research predictive factors and to evaluate consequences of endocrine abnormalities on metabolism and quality of life in these patients. We studied 50 patients (42 men, mean age 36, range 20–59 years, mean BMI 25, range 17–42 kg/m2) who had survived severe (n=3...

Introduction: Few studies to date have attempted to evaluate the early efficacy of first-generation somatostatin analogs in somatotroph macroadenomas. Objective: To investigate the short-term efficacy of primary therapy with lanreotide 120 mg on tumor shrinkage and ophthalmologic symptoms in newly diagnosed patients with acromegaly.Design and patients: This single-center retrospective study included 21 patients who were newly diagno...

Context: To date ten publications reporting only 16 patients with pituitary aggressive tumors or carcinomas treated with temozolomide are available. Expression of O6-methylguanine-DNA-methyltranferase (MGMT), a DNA repair protein implicated in the resistance to temozolomide, was studied in only 10 out of these 16 patients. It has been suggested that low expression of MGMT could predict temozolomide efficacy. Objective: The aim of this st...
